What nobody mentions

The film still exists. Nothing reads it.

Thousands of family photographs sit asleep in shoeboxes. Not because anyone forgot them, but because there is nothing left in the house that can show them.

The projector is gone

The slide projector went to the tip twenty years ago. The boxes stayed — in the loft or the cellar, perfectly intact and completely unviewable.

Film degrades

Colours drift towards red, the emulsion clouds, and damp does its work. Badly stored film loses a little more every year, and none of it comes back.

Nobody sees them

Your children and grandchildren look at everything on a phone. While these photographs stay on film, they will never see them.

Three steps

Load the film. Press SCAN.

Nothing to install, no cable to a computer, no account to create. It all happens on the device.

Choose the holder

Place your negative, slide or 110 or 126 film in the matching holder, then slide it into the slot at the front.

Press SCAN

The image appears live on the 7-inch screen. Adjust the exposure if the film is dark, press SCAN, and the photograph is saved as a JPEG in the built-in memory.

View them anywhere

Plug the HD cable into the television to see them large, or the USB-C cable into a computer to move them across and send them to the whole family.

Straight talking

What this scanner does — and does not do.

The sensor is 24 megapixels. The 48 megapixel setting is a software enlargement: the file gets bigger, but it holds no more real detail. We would rather say so here than let you find out after buying.

An important point about Super 8: this scans still frames, one at a time. It does not turn a reel of home movies into video. If you have cine reels to convert into film, you need a reel converter, not this scanner.

  • Ideal for: 35 mm negatives, mounted slides, 110 and 126 film and black and white photographs — the family boxes of the last fifty years.
  • The quality you get: more than enough for sharing, emailing and printing up to 8 × 10 inches. For professional archiving, a lab scanner is still better.
  • Less suitable if: you want to turn Super 8 reels into video, or scan 120 medium format.

Memories finally seen again

★★★★★
“I scanned my parents' slides, up in the loft for thirty years. Seeing my mother young, on a screen, in colour — I was not remotely ready for it.”

“A lab wanted $1.40 a slide. I had over six hundred. The scanner paid for itself the first weekend, and nothing left the house.”

“The 7-inch screen changes everything. You actually see the photo before you keep it, without glasses and without guessing. My 82-year-old mother uses it on her own.”

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a computer? +
No. It works on its own, with a 7-inch screen and 16 GB of built-in memory. You only connect a computer if you want to move the files across, and that is optional.
Which film formats are supported? +
135 (35 mm), 126 KPK, 110 and Super 8 negatives, plus mounted slides and black and white film. 120 medium format is not supported.
Can I convert Super 8 reels to video? +
No, and this matters. It scans still images, one frame at a time: it photographs each frame separately. It does not turn a reel of home movies into video. For that you need a reel converter, which is a different machine.
Do I need to buy a memory card? +
No. The scanner has 16 GB built in, which is several thousand JPEG photographs. You move them to a computer afterwards with the supplied USB-C cable.
Is the 48 megapixel mode real? +
The sensor is 24 megapixels. The 48 megapixel mode is software interpolation: the file is enlarged, but it holds no more captured detail. For most purposes 24 megapixels is more than enough.
How long does one photo take? +
About a second per frame. The real time depends on handling: reckon on roughly an hour for two hundred slides, working at a steady pace.
What is the photo quality like? +
The 24 megapixel sensor works out at roughly 3,200 dpi. That is ample for sharing, emailing and printing up to 8 × 10 inches. For professional archiving, a lab scanner is still better.
Can I view them on my television? +
Yes. The supplied HD cable connects it to the television at 1080p, compatible with NTSC and PAL. Ideal for going through slides together on a big screen.
Can I adjust the image before scanning? +
Yes. Exposure adjusts from −2.0 to +2.0 EV directly on the screen before you capture. Useful for dark slides or faded negatives. White balance is automatic.
Where are my files saved? +
As JPEGs in the 16 GB of built-in memory. From there you move them to a computer with the USB-C cable and share them by email or on a phone.
Does it remove dust and scratches? +
No. There is no hardware dust or scratch removal. Clean your film gently before scanning — the antistatic brush in the Comfort package is there for exactly that.
What is the return policy? +
You have 30 days for a full refund. Statutory cancellation rights in your country apply on top of that.
How long is delivery? +
7 to 14 working days, free and tracked. Orders are processed Monday to Friday and your tracking number is emailed as soon as the parcel leaves.
What does the warranty cover? +
1 year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The Collection package includes an extension to 2 years.

The photographs are still there. They just need looking at.

Your film loses a little colour every year. Your digital files never will.
